Bored

Not a whole lot has been happening on the job search front. I’m working with an agency in Madison, but the guy I work with is on vacation this week. SO… that meant another week of sitting at home. He’s full of a lot of good words; supposedly has contacts at a lot of the places I would apply to; thinks I have great potential to find a really good job… I’m just being impatient I guess. I want to work!

I moved the critters to the spare room just to try and make space out here. Cirrus came back out to the living room so she could fly around and stuff… Harley was being incredibly noisy in there so I brought him out too. Besides, Cirrus missed him. I don’t think they liked it in there so what I gonna do? heheh Ziggy parked herself up on the top bunk and stayed there for 3 days. She had not eaten much in the past week so I got up there, brought her down, and put her in the living room on her basking shelf. She promptly gobbled up a big pile of lettuce and 5 green beans. I guess she don’t like being in there either. Maybe they missed me, maybe they like me? )

I’ll do the kitchen again today, clean the living room, maybe vacuum. Laundry maybe too. Web work… I have to re-do the speaking engagements page on HeartLightShining.com for Candace. Surf, watch tv, make some char siu, read the mail… Yes my days are truly inspiring. heh

Heather is coming by this weekend again. Maybe we’ll go to Dubuque or something. Window-shop, because my budget won’t allow for much more than that. I’m still waiting to see if I’ll get foodstamps. If this no-job goes on for much longer, I’ll need them. I wonder how long before I lose all that I learned in school… sigh!

Another day… to get through.

What kind of monster?

I’m Frankenstein’s Monster! s hock:

Katrina Aftermath at Neil and Jane’s Photo Gallery

Here is a link to my photo gallery of Neil and Jane’s house when they went back to get the horses and their belongings:

Katrina Aftermath at Neil and Jane’s

Amazing! The horse shelter stood up to that hurricane! Thankfully the horses were just fine, too. They’re in Texas now. Neil and Jane put the house on the market before they left… (

NOLA update

They made it in today, and the horses look good. We’re all glad to hear that! Here’s the update I got from Susan today:
————–
Subject : New Orleans update

NOLA is short for New Orleans Louisiana, fyi.
Jane just called and they are at the house and working
hard. They couldn’t get the trailer all the way in,
but it’s close enough. The horses don’t even have a
scratch on them! They’ve had enough food and water
since the hurricane. Jane wanted me to tell everyone
that they are all there and doing great. Cell
reception if not good so she’ll call me with updates
when need be and I’ll notify family.
I included my horsey friends in this note to let them
know Stetson and Pilgrim are alive and well. They’ll
be living in the hill country of Texas by tomorrow
night.
Take care all and count your blessings!
Susan

I’m relieved, but probably not as much as Neil and Jane. No word on the condition of the house, though. Maybe next time.

Sad News

Here’s the email I got from Susan yesterday, along with a picture:

Subject : Buddy’s battle is over

Buddy fought hard for a long time and had some major
insults to his body this summer. He passed away today
and is enjoying green grasses without any more worries
of founder.
Hug your horses today,

Katrina and the horses

Well the other day, one horse was spotted. Yesterday, the other horse
was spotted. So the neighbors say both horses look to be in OK
condition!!!! My brother in law is on his way with the horse
trailer. The rest of the family, brother in law Gary in Houston,
brother Neil in Austin, sister Michelle in Dallas, will meet up with
Dave (brother in law from WI with the trailer) tomorrow hopefully
around nightfall in Baton Rouge, and they will head on in late Monday
or early Tuesday to get the horses, and whatever they can salvage from
their house. We’re all so happy the horses survived! Now let’s hope
they’re in good health.

Keep up the prayers for the lost, and those still waiting for rescue.
My family’s saga seems to be coming up on some little bit of closure… )

Love this dress!

Here’s a picture of a sundress I found in the August issue of Bon Apetit today:

I LOVE this sun dress!

It’s linked to a bigger picture. I love this dress! But at $295, it won’t be making an appearance in my wardrobe any time soon!

Labor Day

Happy Labor Day!

I met with the guy at Placement Opportunities in Madison on Friday. That went well. He says he has a 100% success rate at placing folks in jobs they like, and he’s been at it for 20 years. So it sort of looks like I’ll wind up in Madison. Heather is happy. ) I was thinkin that if I relocate it would be to someplace nearby, like Cross Plains, Ridgeway, Barneveld, Mt. Horeb, or something still in the country, but lots closer than I am here in Platteville. Right now, it’s an 80+ mile drive one way. I’d like to get that closer to 20 or 25 miles or even less. I’m feeling purpose-less and sort of bored already… I want to work. I hope something happens soon.

I talked to my mom the other day and she says Neil and Jane aren’t going back to NOLA. There’s a group of relatives that are going back with Neil (maybe Jane?) to find the horses and get whatever they can out of the house. 4 or 5 others, I do believe. Being unemployed, I’d like to go too but would probably just get in the way. Better that I stay here, even though I want to help.

GB was in the hospital for awhile this past weekend. Seems he had a bad reaction to some meds he was on. I know he had Greg very worried, and I again felt helpless sitting out here in the midwest… But I know I’m doing the right thing by staying here, even though I’m not over there to assist in dealing with any crisis. They’re all capable people out there, so I should just stop worrying. GB came out of it pretty good though, and is home from the hospital, up and about and sorting through things he dropped when he became ill. Good sign. I spoke with him yesterday. He sounded like the same old GB I knew, not the one Greg described to me the other day. Thank goodness.

Heather and I took a drive out to Dubuque yesterday. I’m in search of a new pair of shoes, because the ones I have no longer look decent enough to wear to interviews. I’ll have to bug Jules about that. He said DVR would cover that cost. Thankfully. We wandered the mall, and looked at every possible store but came up basically empty-handed. I found a pair at Penny’s that will do, but not what I wanted, exactly… Two years ago I got a really great pair from the shoe store downtown. They’re SAS shoes, and fit my AFO’s perfectly and are very comfortable. I can’t find any now, and that shoe store closed up a few months ago. I searched the internet for SAS shoes, and can’t find any. Imagine that!

While in Dubuque, I decided I’d top off my gas tank. Was a pleasant surprise to pay only 2.99 a gallon for gas. Here it’s up to 3.24 a gallon. Sad tho, to think I’m getting a good deal at 2.99 a gallon. Soon gas will be such a big part of my budget that I’ll just have to stay home all the time. *sigh*

Both kids seem to be enjoying college. Brian rides in a carpool with 3 other buddies. They all take turns driving to school. He got his steel-toed boots and I found a Starrett vernier caliper on eBay for a very good price. Next we’ll work on the set of micrometers. Heather is happy to be busy and is also liking her classes. She really misses music, though, and is applying to the university in Madison to see if they’ll give her an audition. She says that MATC has a community orchestra and she’ll look into joining that. She needs music, it’s good for her and makes her feel centered again.

I think I’ll spend this Labor Day laboring around the house here, and get things cleaned up. Next weekend is Dairy Days and there will be a parade and carnival and stuff… Heather is spending a couple nights here so she can hang out with friends and have fun at the fair. It’s also the annual historic encampment weekend, so maybe I’ll go down and take pictures again.
