Where in this day and age does an adult pick up the mumps virus?

Went to the doctor yesterday, who confirmed suspicions that I have mumps. I’ve been working from home all week. Afraid of exposing somebody at work to this. I finally took a half-day of vacation time today, mostly at the company’s insistance. I tried to do some remote assistance work yesterday for a client, but was not at all successful. So I tried to head off an emergency disaster today by asking if two more tasks I had could be reassigned to somebody in the office. That’s when I was informed that if I could not work from home, I should use some of my paid time off. I thought I was making the right decision, not waiting until the last moment and possibly discovering that I would not be able to remote in to this client’s database. I’m a little frustrated that it was perceived that I could not work from home. I had enough other things to do that would have kept me busy for the rest of the day. Oh well… so be it.

So I’m going to be lazy at home for the rest of today. I got clearance for the doctor to go back to work on Monday.

I’m fairly sure most of the people at work don’t realize the risks to adult males and pregnant females if they contract mumps. It seems like those at work think I’m making a mountain out of a mole hill. Adult males with mumps are often-times checked into hospitals to manage the pain - pregnant females in their first trimester risk miscarriage if they get mumps. I was trying to be responsible by not going into the office, and not risking exposing a number of men and at least one woman who is 2 months pregnant.

Well anyway, I can use the rest. This virus sorta knocked me on my ass, so a nap is in order today. )

Also while at the doctor yesterday, it was discovered that the tube has finally come out of my left ear drum. I guess some time in the near future I’ll have to get that replaced. blah.

Laterz…
